Whether you believe in God or not, or believe in God and don’t choose to follow His path, we all have a need to be loved.
The challenge with human relationships is that rarely is love unconditional, unlike God’s Grace (His unconditional love).
In our human relationships, we often need someone to tell us that they love us, or show us through their actions. When it comes to God, we just have to know that whatever state we are at in our lives He loves us. Of course, it isn’t always easy to always remember that God loves us.
It can be especially challenging during times of personal struggle. Hence it is such a blessing when reminded of those three words – “God Loves You.”
Yesterday someone said to me “God Loves You.” Whenever I hear those three words said to me, it is like having an injection of love straight into my heart, bringing Joy and then a sense of peace. The effect of those three words has been the case throughout my life, even when only turning to Christ in August last year (August 2017).
So how is it that those words had that effect even when I wasn’t looking towards God, deciding on the path I want to follow or just doing things my way?
If you are a parent you will know the difficulty in seeing your children suffer, especially when you know there is a better way, imagine your child isn’t listening and patiently waiting for them to turn to you and take your hand to guide them. It seems to me that must be what it is like for God.
So He has always loved me and those times I was told “God Loves You” I would feel that love, then maybe guilt for not taking His hand, sometimes because I was afraid of the consequences. Just like a child not wanting to be scorned by their father. God, however, isn’t scornful, doesn’t forsake us, forever doing what He can to guide us even when we make it difficult for ourselves.
So when I look back at my life and see how God blessed my family and me, brought us through times of struggle, even when I wasn’t looking his way.
Now, when I hear someone tell me “God Loves You” I can confidently reply with “Indeed He does.”
